in Hong Kong are invited to meet U of T Professor Emerita Janet
Salaff at the launch of her latest book Hong Kong Movers and
Stayers: Narratives of Family Migration.

Janet Salaff
is Professor Emerita at the Department of Sociology, University
of Toronto. She received her Ph.D. in 1972 from the University of
California (Berkeley) and is a visiting scholar at the Centre of
Asian studies, the University of Hong Kong.

U of T alumni for a relaxing, scenic route around the Shing Mun
Reservoir. This event is open to U of T grads and friends. Children
over the age of 5 are welcome to participate.

Time: 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. (including short mini bus trip & 2
hour lunch at Chinese restaurant)
Level of difficulty: Relatively easy, hike takes 2 hours
30 minutes to complete

Remarks: Water, sunscreen, hiking stick, comfortable shoes,
camera (optional)

Get published!
A U of T professor is calling for a photo of Hong Kong to include
in his upcoming publication. Whether you are a professional or a
budding photographer, this is a great opportunity to get your photograph
published in a U of T Press book.
Only one photo will be chosen for the publication, the photographer
of the chosen photo will get full credit in the book and will receive
a copy of the book signed by the author.
- Topic:
The Hong Kong Skyline
- This photo
contest is open to U of T graduates and friends
- One photo
per submission (please send your best photo)
- Participants
must own the rights to the photo and agree to sign a photo release
form if his/her winning photo is chosen for the book
- A smaller
version of the photo (less than 1 MB) can be submitted at the
initial stage. If the photo is chosen, the participant must be
able to submit a high resolution version that is suitable for
publication printing
- Submission
deadline: Monday, May 31, 2010

photo, please e-mail your photo together with a photo caption, your
name, contact telephone number and U of T graduation details (if

a U of T Student around Town: Call for Volunteers |

This June, 330
University of Toronto students will arrive in Hong Kong for the
month-long U of T Summer Abroad Program.
For many of
the students in the program, it is their first visit to Asia. So
to help students gain a proper introduction to Hong Kong, the U
of T office is organizing a half-day city tour, starting at 11 a.m.
Date: Saturday,
June 12, 2010
Time: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Meeting Location: Shun Tak Centre or HKU Campus

Alumni volunteers as local guides are needed, if you feel like introducing
your favourite parts of Hong Kong such as "dai pai dongs"
or the efficient MTR subway system to a small group of students,
please contact Ms. Michelle Poon at michelle.poon@utoronto.com.hk

The U of
T Woodsworth Summer Abroad program in Hong Kong was first launched
in 1997, since then more than 2000 U of T students have earned a
U of T credit while completing their course work at the University
of Hong Kong during their summer session.
These
Summer Abroad programs are also open to alumni who wish to travel
and complete a U of T credit during the summer months. For 2010,
the program is offered in 13 destinations including Central Europe,
Ecuador, France, Italy, Jordan, Kenya and more. For information
on enrolment for next summer, please visit the Summer
Abroad website.
